Perfumery Pontification

It's milestone time! The very first post of my very first blog. Wooo hoo! Admittedly, I was previously of the opinion that blogs were mostly a gold standard diagnostic test for Narcissistic Personality Disorder among nerds. You know... give a narcissist a working keyboard and an Internet connection at 11 a.m., then BLAMMO!... they create their own blog by tea time. Well, it looks as if I just passed the test, ahem, though it's taken a lot longer than just six hours to get this thing working and looking the way it should. And, much like Disneyland, this site will be forever under construction, so be sure to revisit frequently!

One thing that you will notice about this little spot on the blog-scape is that the overall atmosphere will be light hearted and playful. My favorite author, Tom Robbins, wrote "Those who shun the whimsy of things will experience rigor mortis before death." In an attempt to embrace the whimsy that makes perfumery such a joyful occupation, there will be NO table-pounding here regarding Natural vs. Man-made Molecules, no grumbling over a tofu and zucchini jelly sandwich about any ethical dilemmas brought up by employing Ambergris tincture or Honey in fragrances, etc. As Mr. Robbins also wrote, "Life is too serious to be taken seriously", and I take this very seriously.

Ho-ho-ho! Hee-hee-hee! Ha-ha-Ha!!!

I will, therefore, guarantee you will find a lot of guffawing about such things as the rather TITillating ad campaigns for aftershave (and you know who I'm talkin 'bout here, Tom Turkey!) or those great folks who write the incredibly silly, spoofable ad copy describing the fragrance notes of most any new haute couture perfume.

There will be an "Accord of the Week" posted for enthusiastic DIY perfumers
out there eager to experiment. This should be up in a couple of days. I won't guarantee each offering will be perfectly exquisite, but maybe it will help get the creative juices running, which is probably even better than just following by the cookbook. I'll try to keep materials basic, but will also post links to where you can easily get small amounts of any items missing in your current lineup of materials.

That's all for today. I'll be back shortly with some more fun stuff and lots of personal perfumery pontification!

Fragrant blessings~
